GAZA CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL UP BEFORE U.N. (Reuters) The United Nations Security Council meets to discuss the crisis in Gaza at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on January 6, 2009. Egypt and France have proposed a ceasefire in the fighting which the United States supported on condition that Hamas ceases its rocket attacks on Israel. The UN is now awaiting Israel’s response to the proposal.
